Pulse of Democracy (Pulse) is envisioned as a space for critical exchange of ideas regarding societal and political developments, primarily but not exclusively in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Editorial concept of the Pulse is based on the principle of openness of public space. Publishing on the Pulse supports development of research and policy analysis as well as debates relevant to BiH context and therefore we strongly encourage your contributions. The following general guidelines are intended to facilitate topic selection and writing.

About Content: Five core sections –Rule of Law, Political Institutions, Political Activity, Human Rights, and the Media- allow for a broad thematic spectrum. As a principle criterion in selection of a topic and writing, it is usually helpful to consider the purpose of the text. The purpose common to all texts published in the Pulse is to stimulate and sustain public discussion about issues of importance to BiH as a society and political community. From the purpose it follows that the exposition of arguments, critical examination of the specific events or trends, and placing them within a broader context of sociopolitical processes in BiH and the world, require more detailed elaboration than a mere description of a phenomenon or an illustration of a problem.

About Genre: The Pulse strives to promote thematic diversity and a variety of genre: critical commentaries, short analytical research papers, essays, policy analysis, reviews, etc. It is important to note that these are not strictly academic papers. It is recommended to write concise and dynamic texts and to use simple language, free of jargon and technical terms as far as possible.

About Readers: While writing it is important to bear in mind that text should be accessible to a much wider audience than a specific group of professionals. Within the limitations imposed by the number of internet users in BiH, the audience of the Pulse is BiH public in the broadest sense of the term public. Aside from BiH public, the Pulse is intended for everyone else interested in the events in BiH, notably the researchers, policy analysts and academicians.

Formal requirements: The texts can be written in one of the official BiH languages or English. All documents should be submitted in Word Doc format, with font Times New Roman 11, and 1,5 space between lines. The length of any document should not exceed 1000 words, or two and a half pages. It is possible to send an abstract for consideration (1-2 paragraph).

Copy Rights: Agreeing to publish a text in the Pulse, the authors accept the Pulse policy of openness. This policy allows all media to republish the documents published on Pulse free of charge, provided that the authors and sources are properly cited. Editorial board retains the right to suggest changes and edit the texts.
